Thoughts After My First Pop-Up Event
I started my business on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024. I still can’t believe it! I have worked the hardest I ever worked in a long, long time, but I was so happy every single second. It is so freeing and wonderful to work for yourself and follow your passions! I feel very lucky to be able to do this and am extremely grateful for every opportunity.
I was able to participate in my first pop-up vendor event called “Let’s Be Chingoos” hosted by Yvette Chau (@yvetteciao) in honor of her birthday on 10/13. A week prior to the event, I was extremely busy, setting up all of the logistics of my small business, stocking inventory, replanting every single plant with my homemade soil mix and so many more things I can’t name them all. I barely slept, I was so tired, but again, I was so happy every single second!
On the day of the event, I was surrounded by other seasoned AAPI makers and I felt so nervous! What if people did not like my plants? What if I don’t make any sales? So many nerves and self-doubt flooded my mind. But one of my first customers was a friend and a fierce supporter, Judiaann Woo! And my second customer were my dear friends, Andrew and Melodie, who came with their new baby daughter. Friend after friend came to support me and my business. I was so happy that I couldn’t even believe it. I didn’t cry, and I am very surprised that I didn’t! I was too happy! And most of all, my beloved husband was there every second beside me, helping with customers and handling the point of sale system. I truly could not have done it without him.
Overall, I was so energized and grateful to feel so much love and support from my community. What a lucky girl I am! I made many new connections and met so many wonderful people. I can’t wait for the next one!
